About Me
I built my first F-5 mandolin four years ago for myself and quickly got hooked on building stringed instruments. Although I've been playing the mandolin for around 6 years, I think I'm a better builder than player. I've built several additional instruments, including a flat back lute and a kantele (a Finnish folk instrument). I'm finishing my first commissioned mandolin for a local musician, and hopefully will be building many more instruments in the future. Although there are many great luthiers in the US building quality mandolins, and I still have much to learn, I believe there is room for another mandolin builder.
As a new luthier, I concentrate first on the sound of my instruments rather than the look and finish, because if it doesn't sound good or is not loud enough, then how the instrument looks doesn't really matter that much. The instruments that I have built have been described as loud with good tone. And as I build more instruments, this too will get even better. I also enjoy working with customers in customizing the instrument to suit their particular needs and desires.
